Do you agree with the expectations of your generation? and have you considered how you will balance the different needs in your business?

Traditionalists – are known for their loyalty and for their efforts to help others. Their motivation at work is focused on job titles and the amount of compensation they receive. They may prefer a more formal environment at work.  

Baby Boomers – are ambitious in the workplace and not afraid to take risks to pursue their goals. They are very hard-working, dedicated to their jobs and their employer to achieve lifestyle success.   

Generation X – value friendly, flexible workplaces and productivity over hours spent at work and created the trend for a more relaxed work environment. They will seek out efficiency and innovation in the workplace and want the autonomy to make choices and create relationships with mentors. They aren’t afraid to take risks and this generation was keen to go it alone and set up new businesses.  

Generation Y (millennials) – want meaningful work that allows them to grow and use their creative skills. They will use technology to make their work more efficient and generate a long-lasting impact for their team. They will prioritize professional development over loyalty to an organisation. They will expect a relaxed work environment and aren’t afraid to challenge the status quo.  

Generation Z – just beginning to enter the workforce and want an authentic employer, flexible work environment, clear direction and transparency about their work.  They are more concerned with job security than Generation Y and want continual learning and development.
